More music

As we were walking back from the Picasso museum Tom spotted this strange skinny sculpture of a head. It looks 3 D but it is curiously flattened. And joy of joys, just behind the head was the building I'd been looking for.

It's called the Palau de la Musica Catalan.

This gorgeous concert hall was not built by Gaudi. It was built between 1905 and 1908 by Domenech I Montaner for the Catalan musical society thus proving there were other talented architects lurking about Barcelona in the time of Gaudi.

The building is a glorious fusion of glass, tiles, sculptured stone and brick. You feel surrounded by depictions of the beauty of nature.

And you feel the presence of light as a tangible force.

This magnificent light represents the sun illuminating the building. Natural light flows into the hall. Musicians who play here describe it as like playing in a music box full of light.

All around the stage are muses made of mosaic and carved stone. Most of them are holding musical instruments but this one is the most important one. Her instrument is her voice.

Surrounding the sun light are the choir captured forever in stained glass. They are the reason why the Palau de la Musica was created.
And then we walked back to the apartment and stopped to admire this flirty giraffe sculpture.
