Farewell Barcelona

Our last day in Barcelona. We did the usual packing. Why is it harder to close your bags in the middle of a trip than at the beginning? That is a purely rhetorical question. We visited our last Gaudi masterpiece - Casa Battlo. Fortuitously, it was a seven minute walk from our apartment. This house is called house of bones or house of the dragon. The balconies look like the bony jaws of of some strange beast and the roof represents St George and the dragon. It is truly fantastical.

This is a lovely detail in a wooden door.

An ornate urn in the foyer.

Me on the roof terrace.

Looking up the internal wall of the building up to the light shift above.

Looking out the windows to the street.

A wall decoration.

A lovely organic ceiling frames the light fixture.

The crazy mosaic spires on the roof.

The magnificent facade sprinkled with bits of blue, mauve and green tiles and studded with wave shaped window frames and balconies.

Detail of one of the windows. And after all that culture I had to indulge in a little retail therapy. One of my favourite brands Desigual is designed here in Barcelona. How could I resist? And that answers my initial question as to why packing becomes more difficult in the middle of a trip.
