Yesterday was another crazy day. Our real estate agents had told us that we had to provide 32 towel sets for our prospective renters. We had thought that we were well positioned with our 16 towels, 2 face washers and 4 hand towels. But no that was not the case. So we bundled into the car to drive to Petoskey to go to a cheap department store called Marshalls. We decided to double up on the trip by taking all the boxes that had contained bedding and electrical equipment to the tip as well as all the empty bottles from our party to be recycled. The car was completely stacked with junk. You can imagine our dismay when we found that the tip was closed on Saturday. I suggested that we leave the junk in the car and drive back to borrow Phil's other car. But no, Tom was determined to stick to our original plan. So we drove to the aforementioned department store and bought 10 towels, 30 hand towels, 27 face washers and 10 tea towels. As we plowed through the bargain bins to find the best deals we began to lose our cool but finally we made it to the counter.
You can see by Tom's face just how happy we were. And then out to car to cram the $336.26 worth of towels into the already rubbish filled vehicle.
We were not happy campers! When we finally returned home to unpick all the prices and wash the towels we were already exhausted. Why do retailers attach a minimum of 3 tags to each item?
Unfortunately, no chance of a short break, we had a tennis game to play, a cocktail party to attend and then dinner down at the Beach House. Gosh having fun is hard work.
Off on a tangent, a week ago we stopped by the side of the road to buy some firewood and got hopelessly bogged in the sandy soil. We hardly had time to worry about our predicament because 4 burly men stopped to help us. Seconds later, a couple in a car stopped and pulled a rope from their boot and with the towing and the men pushing we were soon safely out of the bog. The kindness of strangers can be a wonderful thing. I think that country people tend to stop and help out more than city people.
